Acts 20:17-38 (a sermon) What's so different about the 21st century? In so many ways, the 21st century is completely different from the 1st century. |

Let Jeremiah 33 lead you into God's blessing.
‘I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against Me... Then this city will bring Me renown, joy, praise, and honour before all nations on earth...’(7-9). What great blessing lay ahead of God’s people! God was pointing His people to the place of blessing: Jesus Christ - ‘the righteous Branch from David’s line’(15-16). |

Pentecost +16: Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28; Psalm 14; 1 Timothy 1:12-17; Luke 15:1-10
Serve the Lord. Keep on serving the Lord. Preach the Gospel. Keep on preaching the Gospel. God was not pleased with his people - “My people are fools; they do not know Me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding.” They had sinned against Him – “They are skilled in doing evil; they do not know how to do good” (Jeremiah 4:22). They had brought judgment upon themselves - “Now I pronounce My judgments against them.”(Jeremiah 4:12). |

Pentecost +12: Isaiah 5:1-7; Psalm 80:1-2, 8-19; Hebrews 11:29-12:2; Luke 12:49-56
Christ calls us to be different. He calls us to be saved. He calls us to be holy. * Christ calls us to be different. When Christ was here on earth, he met plenty of religious people. He wasn’t impressed by their religion. They liked to think that they were different from other people. They were different – but not in a way that pleased the Lord. He looked at them and He said, “Hypocrites!” (Luke 12:56). |

2 Corinthians
1:1-2:11 - Times of trouble can turn out to be times of great blessing - ‘God… comforts us in all our affliction’ (1:3-4). Whether good things or bad things are happening to you, don’t forget this: God loves you. His Word is ‘not Yes and No’ - ‘Yes, I love you. No, I don’t love you’. In Christ, His Word is ‘always Yes’ (1:19). How do we know that God loves us? |

Genesis 4-5
Chapter 4 The name of Abel appears among 'the heroes of the faith' (Hebrews 11:14). The story of Abel is a story of grace, faith and obedience. * Abel's sacrifice was a blood sacrifice while Cain's was a fruit sacrifice (3-4). The blood sacrifice points forward - via the Old Testament sacrificial system - to the greatest sacrifice of all - 'the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin' (1 John 1:7; Hebrews 9:12). |

Genesis 46-50
Chapter 46 Jacob goes to Egypt. There were three factors in Jacob's guidance. * Inner desire - He wanted to see Joseph. * Circumstances - Joseph wanted to see him and his sons were going to take him. * God's Word - God told him to go. With God's command there was also His promise - 'I will there make of you a great nation'. There was no need for fear because God would be with him (3-4). |

Leviticus 24-27
Chapters 24-25 'Pure' worship is to be offered 'continually'. This is what God is looking for (24:1-8). 'Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? Who shall stand in His holy place?' - no-one else but Christ. He alone 'has clean hands and a pure heart'. He alone 'will receive blessing from the Lord' (Psalm 24:3-5). Our worship is offered to God 'in Christ ... to the praise of His glorious grace' (Ephesians 1:3, 6). This is our worship. This is our joy. |

Joshua 13-15
Chapters 13 and 14 God has given the land to Israel. Still, there was the challenge: 'there is still very much land to be possessed' (13:1). 'God ... has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing'. Now, we must 'lead a life worthy of His calling' (Ephesians 1:3; 4:1). 'Joshua was old and advanced in years'. Caleb was 'eighty five years old' (13:1; 14:10).These were men of faith. |

2 Kings 6-7
Chapter 6 Elisha was 'the man of God' (6, 9, 15). This was the most important thing about him. More than anything else, he was 'the man of God'. We find the same phrase in 1 Timothy 6:11 - 'But as for you, man of God, ... aim at righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness'. We are to be people who put first things first. |

Luke 15-18
15:1-32 - People were coming to Christ (1). Still, the critics were murmuring among themselves (2). What did Jesus do ? - He kept on preaching the Gospel (3-32). The lost sheep (3-7) the lost coin (8-10), the lost son (11-32) - These are the parables of the Gospel. They teach us two lessons - By ourselves we are lost; In Christ, there is salvation. Read about the prodigal son, and think of the perfect Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. |

2 Corinthians 10-13
10:1-11:15 - We are engaged in warfare. Is it ‘worldly war’? Do we use ‘worldly weapons’? No! It is spiritual warfare. God has given us His weapons (10:3-4). Our enemy is ‘Satan’ - ‘the god of this world’ (11:13-15; 4:4). We face him with ‘the whole armour of God’, with ‘the Gospel of peace’ (Ephesians 6:11,13,15). We are not fighting for ourselves. We are not fighting in our own strength. The battle is the Lord’s. He is our Strength. |

Jeremiah 33-35
33:1-26 - ‘I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against Me... Then this city will bring Me renown, joy, praise, and honour before all nations on earth...’ (7-9). What great blessing lay ahead of God’s people! Psalms 80-81
80:1-19 - ‘Restore us, O God, make Your face shine upon us, that we may be saved’ (3). This prayer for salvation is repeated with a growing sense of God’s greatness - ‘O God Almighty’ (7), ‘O Lord God Almighty’ (19). To those who are asking the question of salvation - ‘What must I do to be saved?’ - , God gives His answer - ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved’ (Acts 16:30-31). |

Lamentations (article from Evangel)
Charles M. Cameron, “Lamentations,”, Evangel, 12.1 (1994): 2-4. [p.2] The title―Lamentations ― suggests human sadness. There is, however, something else here ― divine faithfulness. At the heart of this short book, we find this great declaration ― ‘Great is thy faithfulness’ (3:23). Knowing God as the God of great faithfulness involves looking beyond our circumstances and our feelings. Israel’s circumstances were depressing. Jerusalem had fallen. |
